Carolyn is a Registered Art Therapist with the Canadian Art Therapy Association (CATA) and the British Columbia Art Therapy Association (BCATA). She received her Master’s Degree in Art Therapy in 1985 from Vermont College of Norwich University and her Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art in 1982 from the University of California at Santa Cruz. Her career began on Vancouver Island with Victoria Mental Health Centre, followed by work with North Island Mental Health in Port Hardy, as well as the North Island Crisis Centre.Carolyn draws on a variety of theories to create an integrative approach. She is Client-Centered and uses techniques and theories that feel appropriate and fitting to each individual. Her emphasis and strengths lie in her use of Mindfulness Based and Focusing Oriented Art Therapy. Her general aim is to facilitate growth, change, empowerment, and clarity. Often, Carolyn implements counseling skills without the use of art therapy, especially through her work with Employee Assistance Programs (EAP’s). Finding the balance of counseling and art therapy is interesting and inspiring!Carolyn loves working with individuals of all ages, as well as couples. When appropriate, she incorporates the experience of artistic expression into counseling in a comfortable manner. No prior experience in art or art therapy is necessary.Carolyn has made the Comox Valley home since 2012. She and her husband have three grown children and one adorable dog. When not outside walking or jogging the many trails around town, you’ll find her working with clay or creating a new mixed-media art piece in her home studio.
