Kathi has over 25 years of experience working in the fields of health promotion and exercise prescription and leadership. She holds an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology, a master’s degree exercise and sport psychology and a master’s degree in clinical psychology from the University of Victoria. Kathi offers counselling support during afternoon and evening hours and welcomes both individuals and couples. She works within a wide range of issues including; depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, gender issues, career counselling, health related coaching and much more. She specializes in disordered eating (binge/emotional eating, anorexia/bulimia, food anxiety, and orthorexia) and negative body image and integrates the “Health at Every Size” approach into her practice.
Transformational learning provides the learner the opportunity to participate in discussion, learn from peers, and reflect on personal assumptions and beliefs that may be getting in the way of positive workplace or individual changes. From communication and respect in the workplace to stress management and employee well-being, transformative facilitation is learner driven and respects individual differences. This approach to health education assumes each participant is the expert in their life and each have the resources within them necessary create positive change. As a result, change is intrinsic and includes a sense of personal ownership. Kathi has been a transformative facilitator in the areas of health promotion and leadership for over 10 years. She has worked with the Canadian Armed Forces in developing a national workshop for the prevention of sexual harassment that spans all elements (Navy, Army, Airforce) and continues to facilitate sexual harassment workshops for 19 Wing Comox, along with a wide range of health promotion topics. She has worked with private, not-for-profit, and government agencies as a facilitator and in program/curriculum development including curriculum development and sessional instruction for the University of Victoria and North Island College. Kathi creates a positive and supportive learning environment that promotes active discussion and the sharing of lived experiences. She takes a participant-centered approach while offering a lively and entertaining learning experience. She is able to create a professional development package to suit the needs of each organization and is known for her real life and humorous approach to the promotion of health and respect within workplaces and educational environments.
